Platforms that promise the earth

Published by michael on

I am writing this post to take a look at the website platforms on offer. I must say from the start that as a bit of a purist i of course have my own views and feelings towards some website platforms but i intend to give you a fair overview of a range of options available to you whether you are looking to replatform or build your first site.

If you have looked through this site or previous posts you will notice that at Empeegeepee we have a slight bias towards 1 specific platform so lets start here

  1. WordPress

Having used WordPress for many years I have been able to get to grips with this platform and what it can and can’t do. Our target market and small to medium businesses and first time digital embarkers and WordPress is easy to get to grips to and easy to train clients how to use so they can take control of their own destiny.

WordPress is easily customisable using plugins and offers clients to get the functionality they want in their site without too much dev and cost. Of course, should budgets and resource provide dev opportunities then that’s even better.

For clients looking for an eCommerce platform then Woocommerce offers front end capability as well as back end order management.

As WordPress is our platform of choice it also means we can make changes quicker and cheaper for clients.

OpenCart

Opencart is another open source platform that is perfect for eCommerce.  Similar to WordPress it caters for large customisation and functionality modules (plugins on WP). With a library of free and paid modules you can add just about anything you want to your site.

If you have some dev resource available (or budget) then OpenCart offers the platform to make your wildest, most creative ideas come to life.

As a digital marketing agency we do focus on traffic generation post go live. If SEO is your priority then its important to consider how each platform can affect your ability to rank.
